Tony Annan, Academy Director

Atlanta United hired Tony Annan as Academy Manager in April 2016 and promoted him to Academy Director on Dec. 14, 2016. Annan has over two decades of experience coaching in the Atlanta area, and is founder of the Georgia United DA program. He also worked in scouting and coaching with the U.S. Soccer Federation, along with an assistant role in 2016 with Atlanta Silverbacks in the NASL.

Assuming the role of Academy Director, Annan has established the Atlanta United Academy since the program’s inception. Since the academy began play in August 2016, more than 30 youth players have been called up to Youth National Teams, including some in residency full-time with the U17 National Team.

A 23-year veteran in youth development in the Atlanta market, Annan recently passed both the U.S. Soccer Academy Director’s Course and the prestigious Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL) course making him one of the most qualified Academy coaches in the U.S. and one of only six coaches to hold both licenses. He has also successfully coached the Academy’s U16/17 squad to a No. 1 ranking, winning the national championship in the 1st year of the program.

Annan will oversee all aspects of the academy program including planning, curriculum development, strategy, structure and organizational operations.
