Gary Curneen recently joined Pro team Chicago Red Stars as an assistant coach. Gary has started Modern Soccer Coach to help educate other coaches and provide avenues for coaches  to learn from some of the best.

Prior to Red Stars, Gary was Women’s Soccer Coach at California State University Bakersfield the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at University of Cincinnati and Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Wingate University. Gary holds a UEFA ‘A’ License from the Irish FA and a “Premier Diploma” from the NSCAA.

Originally from Omagh, Northern Ireland, he gained a Master’s in Business Administration from Wingate University, where he coached the Lady Bulldogs to their first ever SAC Championship and place in the NCAA Tournament.

Gary is the author of ‘The Modern Soccer Coach’ series and is dedicated to continue to learn and evolve as a coach. He urges other coaches to do the same and hopes to provide tools for coaches to grow and learn.

Gary lives in Bakersfield, California and is father to the most active boy on the planet, Calum. Calum is well on his way to becoming the next Messi! Gary and wife, Erin, also had a son named Roy that passed away at three weeks old. This prompted them to write the Soccer Roy children’s book series in memory of their son and to give back to the children’s hospital were Roy spent his short life.
